I have been to Cockatoo Island to see the 18th
Biennale of Sydney. Held every two years, the Biennale of Sydney is Australia's
largest contemporary visual arts event, showcasing bold and innovative
contemporary art from around the world. Alongside the exhibition, the Biennale
presents artist talks, guided tours, performances, forums, film screenings,
family days and other special events.
The 18th Biennale of Sydney is
based on a collaborative framework and dynamic new exhibition model. Artistic
Directors Catherine de Zegher and Gerald
McMaster will bring together international artists to
collaborate and create artworks, exploring new ideas from unexpected voices
around the world.
There was an artist’s work that caught my eyes
which was ‘Domesticated Turf, 2012 by Cal Lane. She used the container and she
cut beautiful shapes and I could feel in the forest garden house. This artwork
was at the back and along the path to her artwork, there was sand looks like
rugs.
Canadian artist, Cal Lane's artwork plays upon
juxtaposition by transforming industrial objects, in this case a shipping
container. Her works highlight an unexpected relationship between the delicate
and domestic patterns of lace, carved into an expanse of steel. The choice of
lace patterns brings another dimension to the work, hinting at lace's
metaphorical capacity both to expose and to conceal. I could
feel in the forest garden house. The carvings on the top of the container were
really amazing and very impressed to me. She cut the shapes and folds it. This
artwork is my favourite I have seen. She concern all the details even the
pathway to this container. This artwork was at the back and along the path to
her artwork, there was sand looks like a carpet.
Catching
the free ferry out to Cockatoo Island for the 18th Biennale of Sydney is a fantastic
ride. There were many interesting artworks and all of
them were really creative and impressed.
